Produced in the Pune District plant like the Australian sourced Tata Xenon light commercial range is the Zest; Tata Motors new compact sedan that has just launched on the Indian market.
Using an all-new platform, the Zest is Tata’s first passenger car to be engineered for global customers and is sold in both petrol and diesel variants.
The Zest is the first vehicle based on Tata Motors HORIZONEXT themes of Intense Product Focus, World-class Manufacturing Quality, Enriched Purchase Experience and Consistent Quality of Service for its passenger vehicle business.
It showcases the brands three key pillars of DesigNext, DriveNext and ConnectNext to deliver best-in-class performance in a spacious, dynamic, comfortable and stylish sedan.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Ranjit Yadav, President Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “We at Tata Motors are delighted to launch the much-awaited Zest. It has been engineered for global customers, by global teams across India, UK, Italy and Korea to offer a car that matches refinement with performance - from the engine, to suspension & braking, the NVH or premium materials. All this has brought elegance to life in this segment.
"With 29 segment-first features, Zest from Tata Motors is the first all-new vehicle in the Horizonext journey with our commitment to bringing innovation to this segment of car-buyers.
"Both the petrol and diesel versions come with their unique segment-firsts and we are confident it will delight our consumers with its design, driving pleasure and great connectivity features.”
The Zest’s 1.2 litre four-cylinder turbocharged Multi-point Fuel Injection (MPFi) engine with drive by wire technology has been developed by Tata in conjunction with global technology partners Bosch, Honeywell, Mahle and is a first for the Indian automotive market.
The Zest diesel has a 1.3 litre Quadrajet Diesel engine coupled with a first-in-class 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT), with both Automatic and Sequential mode of gear-shifting, developed in collaboration with Magneti Marelli, Italy.
Major features include: 9th generation Bosch ABS with EBD, Corner Stability control, Dual airbags, Electric power steering, McPherson Strut front and semi-independent, coil spring rear suspension, rear park assist and an infotainment system with a five inch touch screen.
“We congratulate the Tata Motors team on the launch of Zest as the first vehicle in the Horizonext journey”, said Tata Motors Australia Managing Director Darren Bowler.
“Although there are no plans to introduce it here, there’s no secret of our desire to grow the Tata Motors Australia product portfolio to include passenger cars in the future; but right now we are concentrating on growing our Xenon light commercial vehicle range”, he added.
